An emotional and historic moment was witnessed in the politics of Bangladesh when former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and BNP leader Tariq Rahman, son of martyr President Ziaur Rahman, wrote an open letter to the people of Bangladesh after returning to the country after 17 years. He shared this letter on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

In his message, Tariq Rehman wrote that returning to the motherland’s soil is the most emotional moment of his life. He said that he will never forget the crowd gathered on the streets of Dhaka, the prayers and affection of the people. Expressing his gratitude for the love and respect of the public, he said that this welcome is unforgettable for him and his family.

Expressed gratitude to all Bangladeshis

Thanking his supporters, civil society, youth, farmers, workers and various professional classes, Tariq Rahman said that the real strength of Bangladesh lies in its united people. He also appreciated the role of media and thanked the administrative machinery handling the security arrangements. In the letter he also expressed his gratitude to the leaders of other political parties and movements who welcomed his return. Tariq Rehman stressed the need for democracy, multi-party system and peaceful political culture rising above politics of revenge.

‘This is not a dream, but a plan for Bangladesh…’

Sharing his future vision, he said that his is not a dream but a concrete plan to create a Bangladesh where there is peace, dignity and security and every child has hope for a better future. He concluded the letter by calling for the creation of a united and inclusive Bangladesh. Thank you for inviting me to your home. May Allah bless Bangladesh and all of you, now and always.

Rahman returned to the country with wife and daughter

Tariq Rahman returned to Dhaka on Thursday, where he was given a warm welcome by thousands of his party supporters. He reached Dhaka with his wife Zubaida and daughter Zaima. The interim government led by Mohammad Yunus has announced elections on February 12, after which he will hand over the chair to the elected government. Rehman’s mother and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been hospitalized in a critical condition since November 23. In such a situation, Rehman is being considered an important link in taking over the reins of BNP. With his arrival the problems of Jamaat-e-Islami have also increased. Which dreams of making Bangladesh an Islamic nation.
