On Tuesday, security forces recovered a cache of weapons and explosives during a search operation in Wake Putusai area under Sogam police station in Kupwara district. Security forces are keeping a strict vigil in the entire area.
According to sources, soldiers of 47 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of the Army, 31 battalions of BSF and 8 Sector Rashtriya Rifles had started the operation. Meanwhile, 34 7.62 mm cartridges, 18 9 mm cartridges, a pistol magazine, a Pakistan-made grenade, four Chinese grenades and an ammunition pouch were recovered from a hideout.
Sources said that this recovery points towards efforts to collect weapons in the area. These could have been used for terrorist activities. The entire stockpile is in the possession of the police for investigation. Investigation has been started to trace the source of the recovered weapons and identify the people involved in hiding them.
