Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday described US President Donald Trump as a “criminal”, and held him responsible for the deaths of thousands of protesters. Trump had supported the protesting people.

In a speech broadcast on state television, Khamenei said that ‘several thousands’ of people were killed in the protests. It is the first time an Iranian leader has revealed how many people were killed in the protests that began on December 28 and were violently suppressed.

“We hold the American President to be a criminal because of the deaths and damage and the allegations against the Iranian people,” he said. He described the protesters as agents of America and said that they destroyed mosques and educational centers. By harming people they killed several thousand people.
