According to the Meteorological Department, at present a western disturbance is active in the form of a cyclonic circulation in north-eastern Iran and the adjacent Afghanistan region.

Apart from this, a new western disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayas from the night of February 8, 2026, which may cause light rain and snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. The subtropical westerly jet stream remains active over North India, with wind speeds reaching about 130 knots and blowing at an altitude of about 12.6 kilometers. At the same time, there is a cyclonic circulation of upper air in the north-eastern parts of Assam, the effect of which is also visible on the weather of North-Eastern India. The cyclonic circulation of upper air near Kerala has now shifted towards the south-east Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep.

Light to moderate rain likely in some parts

Due to its effect, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in some parts of Tamil Nadu. Whereas in the Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area, the wind speed can increase from 45 to 55 kilometers per hour to 65 kilometers per hour. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen to exercise special caution while venturing into the sea.

Days are relatively hot in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, nights are extremely cold.

Due to clear weather in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh in recent days, a slight increase in day temperature has been recorded, but the nights still remain very cold. Cold wave continues in most parts of Kashmir Valley and the minimum temperature remains below zero degree Celsius. The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain or snowfall in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on February 7.

Snow in the high altitude areas of Himachal, fog in the plains: According to Meteorological Center Shimla, there may be light rain or snowfall in the high mountainous areas of Himachal Pradesh on February 7 and 9. There is a possibility of dense fog in districts like Hamirpur, Kangra, Bilaspur and Mandi, which may affect life in the morning.

The weather in Uttarakhand currently remains dry. There is a possibility of bright sunshine and clear sky during the day, but dense fog in the morning can increase problems. Similarly, a warning of dense fog has also been issued in some parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
