A student of a private engineering college in Bengaluru was allegedly raped by her junior student in the men’s washroom of the college campus. The accused student studies in the fifth semester of BE and he already knew the victim, who studies in the seventh semester in the same course. The accused was arrested on charges of rape and presented in the court, from where he was sent to judicial custody. Police gave this information on Friday.
What did the victim allege in the complaint?
In the complaint, the victim said that the incident happened on October 10. During the lunch break, the accused called her several times and asked her to meet him on the seventh floor of the Architecture Block. When she reached there, the accused molested her. When she started leaving the lift, the accused followed her up to the sixth floor, where he dragged her into the men’s washroom, closed the door and raped her.

Complaint lodged in Hanumantnagar police station
The victim told that during this time the accused also snatched her mobile phone when one of her friends tried to call her. After the incident the student told everything to her friends. Friends asked him to inform his parents. Later, the accused called her and asked if she wanted the ‘pill’ (emergency contraceptive medicine), but the student disconnected the call. Initially the student did not say anything due to fear and hesitation, but later she told everything to her parents. After this, a complaint was lodged at Hanumantnagar police station on 15 October. Police said that the case has been registered under section 64 (rape) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS).
Leader of Opposition Ashok criticized the government
Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly and BJP leader R Ashok alleged that crimes against women have increased rapidly in the state and the law and order situation has completely deteriorated. He said that in the last four months, 979 cases of sexual attacks on girls have been registered, out of which more than 114 cases are in Bengaluru alone.
Ashok has written a letter to National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar seeking her intervention in this matter. He wrote on Twitter, law and order has collapsed in Karnataka. 979 sexual assaults in just four months. 114+ cases in Bengaluru alone.
