Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shind said that the government is fully committed to helping the flood-affected farmers of the state and their Diwali will not remain in darkness. On speculations of an alliance between Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in the upcoming local body elections, Shinde said that people will reject those who do not stand by their principles.

He said, some leaders were saying that if two Thackerays (Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray) come together then there will be a blast. But the people of Thane will show them who is the boss. People will reject those who are not in line with their principles. Taking aim at Uddhav Thackeray faction’s Shiv Sena, Shinde said, those who sold Shiv Sena will get ‘tikli’ (small firecrackers) from the people, but we will eliminate the opponents with our unity and strength.

Addressing a program of his party in Thane late on Saturday night, Shinde said, Diwali has started and we are celebrating with joy. But amidst the celebrations, there is sadness in Marathwada due to floods and the eyes of farmers are moist. He referred to his party’s immediate response to the floods in Marathwada and said Shiv Sena workers were specifically ordered to give priority to relief work.

He said, our workers went to the affected areas and we told them not to come to the Dussehra rally (Mumbai), but stay there and help the farmers. We sent relief kits and provided assistance to the affected people. I am proud that our workers stood with the farmers in difficult times.
