After India’s strong victory in the third ODI against South Africa and clinching the series, Virat Kohli gave a statement which made the picture of his comeback, confidence and mental freedom clear. Kohli, who became the Player of the Series, said that he is feeling so free after about 2-3 years and this entire journey has improved him both as a player and a person. Speaking candidly on the ups and downs of his long career, Kohli admitted that self-doubt goes with every cricketer, but his hunger to consistently contribute to the team is as strong today as ever.

‘Happy with my performance’
In this series, the 37-year-old batsman scored a total of 302 runs, which included two centuries and one half-century. For this performance he was awarded the Player of the Series award. In the current series, King Kohli played innings of 135, 102 and 65* runs. After the last match, Kohli said that he is feeling so mentally free after a long time.
He said, ‘The way I batted in this series is very satisfying for me. I had not felt such a free mindset for the last 2-3 years. When I bat like this, I am confident that I can turn any situation in the team’s favor.

‘Sometimes confidence wavers, but…’
Kohli admitted that in a long career of 15-16 years, sometimes confidence wavers, but this journey makes the player better. He further said, ‘Being a batsman, one mistake can get you out, so it is natural to have doubts. But the amount you have learned makes you a better person and a better player. Kohli told that he considered the first match played in Ranchi as very special, because he had entered this match directly after the Australia series.

The passion to play for the team remains intact
Kohli also said that the passion to do something special for the team still remains. He said, ‘When the score is 1-1, both of us (Rohit and I) know that something big has to be done for the team. We have been playing with the same passion for so many years and are happy that even today we are able to contribute to the team.
